returned yesterday from the Pearl Alaska cruise. coincidentally, i heard this same song on the pool deck! i love this now, who sings this?

  • alka66:

I just got back from that cruise yesterday! I was also on the NCL Pearl. I had SO much fun. and I met amazing friends, seriously best vacation ever :)

  • arktseytlin:

Sweatshirt should cover it. May be a thin nylon jacket too (with the hood, just in case).

  • jnajem:

I forgot to ask you, what kind of a coat do you need for summer cruising? A winter type coat, or does a sweatshirt cover it. I’d hate to tote a winter coat in the luggage if I don’t need to.

  • arktseytlin:

There is a kids club, of course, arcade, and a room to play board games. One thing to understand that it is Alaska, and even in August it was pretty cold and windy on deck. The kiddie pool on the upper deck was always closed. The main pool is open, but it will be pretty cold out of the water, so keep towels and fleece handy. The water itself is really warm – once you get it you would not want to get out. My opinion though – cruising with little kids is hard. All inclusive resort is much better.

My husband and I are taking our 2 little girls 5 & 6 on the pearl June 1st. This is our first time cruising. Did you think the ship had enough for the kids to do? We are so excited!

  • arktseytlin:

Yeah, those are my kids. Thanks!

  • jnajem:

By the way?… Are these your kids? The little girl in the sailer outfit at :24 is just adorable. Is your family from the states? We’re in Wisconsin.

  • arktseytlin:

No worries, just enjoy the trip.

  • arktseytlin:

That was in Ketchikan. In addition to fishing, there is also an interesting Indian village with very nice Tlingit houses, totem poles, etc.

  • jnajem:

Thanks again for all your good information. I feel like I owe you a favor. Anything I can get for you when I’m there?

  • jnajem:

That’s perfect. Which city was that?

  • jnajem:

Been in many during my Army days, and I’m a private pilot, so the aviation thing doesn’t bother me a bit. The helicopter trips cost about $400.00 plus, but I think it might be worth it.

  • arktseytlin:

My Dad and I just walked off the ship and right there was a store with a fishing charter. Its about $180 per person plus Alaskan fishing license for 1 day. The trip is 4 hours, and usually there are up to 6 people. We caught 17 salmon, and you can ship it home for extra fee.

  • arktseytlin:

We went on whale watching in Auke bay, but only saw one whale very far – and that justified the skipper of keeping the money cause we DID SEE a whale. We so whales from the cruise ship much better. The coolest trip in Jueanau is helicopter ride to the glacier and riding the sled dogs – if you don’t mind the expense and not afraid of helicopters, its the thing to do.
